I'm Davey, the photographer behind Davey P Photography.

My work is centred around sport and athletics, alongside events, portraits, travel and whatever else catches my eye. I like photographs that feel natural, look good and have something about them that makes you want to stop and look.

I also happen to have spent a large part of my life on the other side of the camera, competing in athletics myself. That experience has become a big part of how I approach sports photography.

SPORT IS WHERE IT STARTED

Years spent training and competing have given me a pretty good understanding of what happens beyond the obvious moment.

I know the build-up before a race, the tension on the start line, the moments between attempts and the reaction when it's all over. I know that sometimes the best photograph isn't the one where someone is crossing the finish line.

That perspective helps me anticipate what's coming rather than simply reacting to it.

THE AIM IS SIMPLE

Turn up prepared. Understand what matters. Get the photographs right.

Whether I'm covering a competition, an event, a portrait session or something completely different, I want the experience to feel straightforward and simple.

I'll take the photography seriously without making the whole thing feel overly serious.

SPORTS
Athletics, rugby, football and other sports, from individual athletes to clubs and larger competitions.

EVENTS
Sporting events, parties, social occasions, corporate events and everything happening around them.

PORTRAITS
Athletes, professionals and individuals looking for photographs that feel natural rather than overly posed.

TRAVEL & PLACES
Cities, landscapes, architecture, people and the details that make somewhere interesting.

Some of the best projects are the ones that start with, "I've got an idea..."

BEHIND THE CAMERA

I like to think I can see moments that others can’t.

Finding the right position. Watching what is happening rather than just what is expected to happen. Getting the timing right. Making sure the final images look as good as they possibly can.

But I also think photography should be enjoyable. You shouldn't need to know anything about cameras, lenses or photography to work with me. You just need to know what you'd like photographed.

I'll take care of the rest.
